# Ligingi Community Learning Centre (LCLC)

> A not-for-profit, community-based organisation in Ligingi village, Tororo District,
> eastern Uganda. A model of rural transformation built on self-reliance, learning and
> volunteerism — not aid dependency. Founded 2011.

## About
- Location: Ligingi (also spelt Lugingi) village, Nabuyoga Sub-County, Tororo District, eastern Uganda.
- People: the Jopadhola, a Luo-speaking community.
- Founded: 2011, by the community with friends in Australia.
- Vision: "A prosperous and self-sustaining Ligingi village."
- Mission: To develop the competencies of the Ligingi community to adapt and thrive in the modern world.
- Values: People, Interdependence, Learning, Change, Partnership.
- Ethos: "Foreign aid does not work" — build community-owned enterprises, not charity.

## What we do
- Livelihoods Economic Project: a community co-operative, store, grinding mills and machine house.
- Beekeeping and honey production.
- Adult literacy and early-childhood education.
- Climate-smart farming: permaculture, agroforestry, improved seed, rainwater harvesting.
- Village Savings and Loans groups.
- Community mapping (participatory + GIS), culture and sport.

## Volunteers
- International and local volunteers from Uganda, Australia, Kenya, Canada and South Korea.
